Cody Gakpo scored a goal in Liverpool’s 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday. Not only did the Reds beat Spurs, but won their 20th English top-flight title.
Now they have matched Manchester United’s 20 English top-flight titles glory. Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah also contributed one goal each.
This is Gapko’s first Premier League title, having joined Arne Slot’s side on 1 January 2023. Gakpo has scored nine times in the PL this season. The Dutch international is just one goal away from scoring 10 goals in a PL season for the first time.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder wants right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to sign a new contract with LFC just like Salah and Virgil van Dijk did early this month.
Gapko feels that Alexander-Arnold staying with Liverpool will help them a lot to find a better balance in the seasons to come.
Gapko told LFCTV: “The group didn’t change much from last season, so you can build on the team as well.
“Now with Mo [Salah] and Virgil [van Dijk] staying, and hopefully Trent as well, then you can keep building on that team hopefully for many years to come.”
LFC head coach Arne Slot won the PL title in his debut season. He joined the mega English side in the 2024 summer as a replacement for legendary Jurgen Klopp.
