Chelsea opened their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup season with a 2-0 victory over Los Angeles FC. However, it was a strange experience for the players and management as they played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
However, the match was able to fill 22,137 out of 71,000 capacity. It is strange for the English club Chelsea as they play all of their games in England at packed stadiums.
Even Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca felt the emptiness in Atlanta.
He said: “We are professional and we have to adapt to the situation, to the environment. You have to adapt when you play with a full stadium. You have to adapt when the stadium is not full but it doesn’t matter.”
The FIFA Club World Cup, wth 32 teams, is a good concept. But conducting the opening edition in the United States might not work as well as doing it in Europe.
The Blues have a global fan base. Hence, an empty stadium for a decent game does not look nice for the fame of his newly formed competition.
