Ruben Amorim, who is the manager of Manchester United, said he does not care about criticism. The former Sporting manager saw a crushing 4-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday.
Alejandro Garnacho was the only goalscorer for the Red Devils versus Newcastle. In return, they received four goals courtesy of Sandro Tonali (first-half goal), Harvey Barnes (brace) and Bruno Guimaraes (second-half goal).
After Man United facing the 14th domestic league season defeat, Amorim said: “I understand (criticism), but I don’t care.”
“When we suffer, the second goal in the beginning of the second half we went down, and we need to be better in these moments, we need to control it.
“We need to improve in a lot of things, and our position is a reflection of our performances this season.”
The 2-2 draw at Lyon last week helped Man United to keep their Europa League hopes alive. Now winning the second leg of the Europa League last-8 is the only option for the three-time European champions to save this season and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Otherwise, there is no door opened for them to play in Europe next season. Being 14th in the PL after 32 games means even Europa League qualification is not possible via the PL route.
They are already out of the FA Cup too as winning this title could have opened the Europa League qualification.
