Concacaf has not allowed Greenland to become a part of the federation. Greenland is a sovereign territory of Denmark.
They could have become a part of UEFA. But the European body only allows countries under the United Nations’ recognition to become a members.
Being close to North America, Greenland, with a population of 57000, wants to become a part of CONCACAF and play in major events.
At present, they play non-FIFA friendlies.
Team Concacaf said: “Based on a thorough assessment conducted by the Concacaf administration and Council, and in accordance with the Concacaf Statutes, the Member Associations reviewed the membership application submitted by the Greenlandic Football Association and unanimously rejected it.”
Since Donald Trump has taken over as the United States leader for the second time in late 2024, he has made it clear about making Greenland a part of the US.
This is something Denmark and other European nations have not liked.
Hence, Greenland becoming a part of FIFA-approved nations to play football is a must.
