Don Hutchison, who is the ex-Scotland football player, hailed Scott McTominay for winning Serie A title in his debut season.
McTominay made a move to Napoli from Manchester United, winning the 2024-25 Most Valuable Player (MVP) in Serie A.
Irony is that McTominay was considered an average player at Man United despite scoring goals for them in a decent fashion.
In 34 Serie A games, McTominay contributed 13 goals and provided six assists in the 2024-25 season. His impact made Napoli win the Italian top-flight title, beating Inter Milan.
It was McTominay’s first domestic league title celebration on Friday (May 23). In a title-winning match at home, the Blues beat Cagliari 2-0 thanks to Romelu Lukaku and McTominay scoring one goal each.
As Inter finished just one point behind champions Napoli with 81 points in 38 Serie A matches, losing the game would have made Inter the Italian champions.
Hutchison told TNT Sport: “He looks like he is loving life.”
“A lot of backroom staff at Manchester United can be proud of how they turned him into this.
“The player has been there for four or five years, but it is going to Napoli and having the confidence of the manager that has taken him up tenfold.”
McTominay had scored a decent number of goals at United in the last two to three seasons before moving to Italy in 2024. However, it must be the confidence he got at Napoli that has made him one of the best midfielders in the world.
