Former Portugal and West Ham United defender Jose Fonte hailed Lionel Messi for his amazing performance at the FIFA Club World Cup against FC Porto.
In a thrilling Group A match, Inter Miami outsmarted Porto 2-1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Samu Aghehowa’s 8th-minute penalty kick gave Porto a 1-0 lead.
Miami came stronger in the second half, with Telasco Segovia levelling the scoreline 1-1 in the 47th minute and Messi scoring a goal in the 54th minute to win the game 2-1.
The victory has helped Inter Miami reach the last-16 of the competition alongside Palmeiras from Group A, as both sides have won their opening two games.
Inter Miami will next face Palmeiras in their final Group stage game. As both teams have opened the round of 16 doors, it will be a battle of knowing who tops Group A.
Messi has a chance to win the FIFA Club World Cup in a new format, which would create history.
Fonte, who is ex-Cristiano Ronaldo teammate at Portugal, said on DAZN: “Touched by God, isn’t he? Incredible. What a player.”
Fonte feels that Messi being so good at 37 years is not normal.
