Beating hosts Fulham 2-0 in the Premier League has helped Manchester City book the Champions League spot on the final day of the 2024-25 season.
Ilkay Gundogan and Erling Haaland scored one goal each to make City finish the English top-flight season on a fine note.
It’s not usual for the Sky Blues under Pep Guardiola to drag the UCL qualification to the final day of the domestic league season.
City finished third in the PL table, with 71 points in 38 games. After winning the crucial match against Fulham, Guardiola made it clear to the media that there is nothing personal against Jack Grealish, who is most likely to leave the season this summer due to a poor show in the 2024-25 season.
Guardiola said: “It’s nothing personal with Jack. I am the person who fought for him to come here and the person who fought for him to stay here this season and the next season. I am the one who said ‘I want Jack Grealish’.”
“Now he didn’t come because he didn’t come but not something else. What happens in the future is a job for Txiki (Begiristain), Hugo (Viana) and the agents.”
The former Barcelona manager cleared it to the media last week about telling the Man City board to reduce the squad.
This has raised questions about the future of the England star, who scored just once in 20 outings in the recently concluded PL season.
Grealish made a high-profile move to Man City from Aston Villa in the summer of 2021, scoring just 12 times in the PL for the Citizens.
He has never played 30 games in a single PL season for Guardiola’s side, which is due to injures and inconsistency.
