Head coach Lionel Scaloni feels that Argentina have the tools to play well in star player Lionel Messi’s absence.
Argentina, who are all set to face Colombia in the World Cup qualifier on Wednesday, are in the international break without Messi.
Messi made his debut for Argentina in 2005, scoring 112 goals in 192 matches.
He has played for the teams that have won two Copa America titles, the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2008 Olympic gold medal.
He missed some of the games for Argentina this season, when they qualified for the World Cup finals.
However, in this month’s international break, he came as a substitute in Argentina beating Chile 1-0 last week.
Argentina will play next World Cup in 2026 as the defending champions.
“The team is now in a moment where it can play in the same way with Leo (Messi) or without Leo, which used to be more complex in the past as we had to change some players.” Scaloni told reporters.
Messi is possibly playing next year’s World Cup in North America. So he has a chance to win another WC. He will be 39 years old during the upcoming WC.
