After losing the semi-finals against India by four wickets at the 2025 Champions Trophy, Steve Smith retires from One Day Internationals.
The 35-year-old batsman was named as Australia’s captain for the Champions Trophy as skipper Pat Cummins missed the event due to an injury.
Smith, in his last ODI, scored 73 runs in 96 balls against India on Tuesday. Smith, who came as a legspinner first, is now being known as one of the best batsmen ever.
Smith, in 158 innings, scored 5,800 runs in ODI for Australia. In total, he played 170 ODIs, Smith helped Austaralia win two World Cups in 50 overs format (2015 and 2023).
With 43.28 ODI average, Smith scored 12 centuries and 41 half-centuries.
He made his ODI debut versus West Indies at Melbourne on February 19, 2010.
He also has 28 ODI wickets on his name too. Smith nows focuses on playing Test cricket more than limited overs formats.
