On 12 May, Monday, Virat Kohli went on social media platforms for sharing the update of his retirement from Test cricket.

Following his departure from the T20I format in 2024, the 36-year-old batsman can only be seen playing for India in the ODI format.

Following Rohit Sharma’s Test retirement last week, the cricket world was only talking about Kohli’s rumours to retire from Test cricket.

And on Monday, he took his massive step at a time when the former India captain needed just 770 runs to complete his 10,000 runs milestone in the five-day format.

His Test debut came against West Indies in 2011. With an impressive average of 46.85, Kohli scored 9,230 runs in 123 games.

30 hundreds and 31 fifties tell the impact he made for India in Test cricket.

Here is Kohli’s official statement:

As per some credible cricket pundits, the BCCI felt Kohli should continue playing the red ball format. However, he did not get pursued by the cash-rich board.

In 68 matches, he was the captain of India in Tests and won 40. It makes his winning ratio as a captain better than any other Indian skipper.
