Cricket pundit Irfan Pathan is not impressed with Jasprit Bumrah not playing the second Test against England, who hold a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
At Edgbaston, England won the toss and chose to field first. India played 85 overs in Day 1 (2 July) and scored 310 at the cost of five wickets.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an impressive 87 runs, with Karun Nair’s 31 and Rishabh Pant’s 25 runs setting a decent base.
However, the stars of Day 1 were captain Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja, who did not get out.
Gill has scored 114 runs, and Jadeja has backed him with 41 runs. The partnership between Gill and Jadeja on Day 2 is crucial for India to set a 500-plus total.
But Pathan is not happy with Bumrah not playing the Test makes it hard for the bowling until to shine.
The Indian great said on Sony Sports: “If you are selected in the Indian team, you cannot pick and choose to manage your workload.”
Bumrah is an injury-prone bowler and India’s finest ever when it comes to fast bowling. Hence, the BCCI has given him the space to pick and select which game he wants to play to make his career long-lasting.
As per several cricket lovers, India has never seen a match-winner like Bumrah with the ball. Hence, he gets more backing from the team than others.
