Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti told the court in Spain that he did not know about committing a tax fraud.
As per Spain’s tax authorities, the former Everton boss did not pay 1 million euros tax from the money he received from Real Madrid during his first tenure as the club’s manager – 2013 to 2015.
In 2021, Ancelotti came back to Spain and became Real Madrid boss for the second time.
Prosecutors want Ancelotti to go behind bars for at least four years & nine months along with paying the mega fine of 3.2m euros.
Ancelotti faces an accusation of adding only his salary in taxation while filing an income tax return, leaving the money generated from the image rights.
Ancelotti said: “For me, everything was in order.”
Ancelotti even said Real paid him 6m euros salary (£5.1m), which he paid the tax for.
“I thought it was quite normal because at that time all the players and the previous coach had [done the same],” he added.
“For coaches [image rights] don’t mean the same as they do for players because they don’t sell shirts.”
In 2017, even star player Lionel Messi faced a 252,000 euro fine for failing to pay taxes on all his earnings.
Two years later, Cristiano Ronaldo did pay an 18.8m euro fine.
In the 2011-12 season, even Jose Mourinho was fined 2.2m euros in a somewhat similar situation.
