Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has paid tribute to Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash on 3 July 2025. It was a shocking death of a footballer who has a high-profile name in the game.
In the 2024-25 season, he scored six goals and provided four assists in 26 Premier Legaue appearances.
Van Dijk and Jota have been playing together since 2020, when the Portugal international joined the Reds. Last month, he won the Nations League with Portugal.
The LFC captain said: “We will miss you beyond words and never forget you.”
Jota’s death has shocked football fans worldwide. At the young age of 28, he left this brick-and-mortar world.
