Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary MS Dhoni, being the most senior player in the team, should manage and plan things very well.
As Ruturaj Gaikwad faced an injury, Dhoni returned as the CSK skipper for the first time since making them win their 5th Indian Premier League in 2023.
Dhoni’s captaincy return against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday did not serve him well as they lost the game by eight wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Even Dhoni was able to score just one run against defending champions KKR, who got an easy target of 104.
Sunil Narine took three wickets and scored 44 runs in 18 deliveries, chasing the 104 total at the cost of two wickets in 10.1 overs.
After CSK faced the fifth defeat of the season, winning just, Tiwary said on Cricbuzz: “Why do they not go to the drawing board early? I think, it is obvious that you re-asses after a loss. But some things that are taking place is beyond my understanding. Like, when Ashwin was bowling today, earlier to all the left-handers he bowled round the stumps, but today he bowled over the stumps. I became very easy for Sunil Narine. These small things…when you have such an experienced player and wicketkeeper like MS Dhoni? Unka kahi na kahi Dimaag nahi chal raha hai kya (Have their brains stopped working)?”
As Dhoni can still hit mega boundaries and is still sharp as a wicket-keeper, many experts feel he should bat up in the order.
Chennai are seventh in the IPL table, with collecting two points in six games.
