CONCACAF football chief Victor Montagliani has said in crystal clear words that the US border crackdown will not impact the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The statement came on Thursday after a report went viral about recently detained or deported visitors re-attempted to cross the United States borders.
Montagliani is fully assured that the US government will solve the problem soon – and the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico will go smoothly.
As the World Cup will start in 16 months from March 2025, Montagliani sees US President Donald Trump making sure that this border crackdown problem can be solved soon, which will make it easier for football fans around the world to enter the US.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition with 48 teams. Earlier, the competition happened between 32 teams.
“It’s a natural thing. Even during the last World Cup in Qatar, I had friends of mine calling me, saying, ‘Hey, I’m worried to go there for whatever reason.’ And you know, it was all fine,” Montagliani told AFP.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11, 2026 – Sunday, July 19, 2026.
