Just like the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2026, the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup will feature 48 nations.
Not to forget that the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup is the first edition having 32 teams, from the traditional 24.
It means in four years, 12 more countries will have space to play at the mega event.
FIFA has confirmed that there will be 12 groups and 40 extra games. It will be a huge jump from 64 matches to 104.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino feels that this change will help the growth of women’s football massively in the next 10 to 20 years.
He said: “The chance to benefit from the tournament to develop their women’s football structures.”
He added: “This decision ensures we are maintaining the momentum in terms of growing women’s football globally.”
The United States and Mexico are the host nations for the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
