Carlos Alcaraz comes from Spain. Hence, the tennis world likes to compare him with legendary Rafael Nadal.
Nadal retired from professional tennis on 19 November 2024 after winning 22 majors.
Alcaraz, 21, has already won four grand slams. Last year, he won the French Open and Wimbledon.
This first major came after winning the 2022 US Open. Not to forget that Alcaraz won the 2023 Wimbledon too.
Having won four majors already and beaten Novak Djokovic multiple times, Alcaraz wants to create his legacy rather than being called the successor of Nadal.
He said: “I don’t want to be called Rafa’s successor.”
“I want to be called Carlos Alcaraz Garfia.”
Even Nadal agrees with Carlos’ approach.
“When you’re young and they’re constantly comparing you to some professional that’s been on the circuit for many years, there are times you get tired of hearing it,” he said.
“This leads to an excess of pressure and in the end, I think it can distort your daily life and even confuse you.”
At the 2025 Australian Open, he lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals. Otherwise, Alcaraz had the chance to win the only major he has not won yet and become the youngest male tennis star to win all four grand slams.
