Former Barcelona striker Lionel Messi will not feature in the next two World Cup Qualifiers for Argentina as he is not fully fit.
Messi returned to Inter Miami’s starting XI versus Atlanta United on Sunday. Mami won the Major League Soccer game, but Messi picked up an injury.
After the game, the club did confirm that Messi is having a “low-grade” injury.
Last week, the 37-year-old striker came from three games’ rest in the Concacaf Champions Cup, where he scored a goal too at Jamaican side Cavalier.
The games against Uruguay and Brazil can boost the chances of Argentina to reach the 2028 FIFA World Cup finals.
However, Argentina are leading the 10-team qualifying group, with five points ahead of second-placed Uruguay. The Brazil hold the fifth position. The top six teams will go to the World Cup finals.
Not just Messi – but Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Montiel will miss these two games due to injury problems.
Brazil will also battle against Argentina without mega star Neymar, who is a former teammate of Messi.
