The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to hold the Indian Premier Legaue matches for a week.
As the tensions between India and Pakistan have grown a lot in the last few days, the BCCI sees a need to stop the mega event for a week.
“Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Yesterday, in Dharamshala, the game between the Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals was stopped in between due to cross-border air strikes.
There are still 12 games left before the playoffs start. Hence, the remaining games might happen later this year if the tension grows in the next few days.
A seven-day stoppage has given the BBCI a window to plan things well overall. Several overseas players are reportedly looking to leave India due to the war-like situation.
