Cricket legend Andy Roberts used heavy words directed towards the International Cricket Council, better known as the ICC, for favouring the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The former West Indies cricketers feel that the ICC makes some of the decisions during the major events that benefits Team India a lot.
The Champions Trophy 2025 in a hybrid model made India play all of their games in Dubai. They ended up winning the title, with many experts and fans of cricket feeling that India had an advantage of playing at just one stadium.
“To me, the ICC stands for the Indian Cricket Board. India dictates everything. If tomorrow, India says, ‘listen there should be no no-balls and wides,’ take my word, the ICC will find a way to satisfy India,” Andy Roberts told Mid-Day.
As India reached the semis and final of the Champions Trophy 2025. It made the semis against Australia and the final versus New Zealand to take place in Dubai.
Due to this reason, even the fans of cricket in Pakistan were unhappy as they felt that the hosts of every match should have been played on their home soil.
He added: “Something’s got to give… India can’t get everything. The ICC must say no to India at times. India even had an advantage at last year’s T20 World Cup, where they knew in advance where their semi-final would be played. At the Champions Trophy, India did not have to travel at all. How can a team not travel during a tournament?”
Some are even putting the questions ahead in the UAE, other than Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah should have other venues for India.
However, they ended up playing all the games in just one city and ground.
