Ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy final, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead expressed concerns over Matt Henry’s status of playing in the final against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Henry did hurt his shoulder in the semi-finals against South Africa on Wednesday.
Not to forget that Henry is the highest wicket-taker at the 2025 Champions Trophy.
On Thursday, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was confident of seeing Henry play the final. However, a day later, they changed their views.
Stead hinted on Friday that Henry playing in the final is unlikely.
He said: “We’ve had some scans and stuff done on him, and we’re going to give him every chance to be playing in this match. It’s still a little bit unknown at this stage.”
Last Sunday, India beat New Zealand in the final group-stage game. Other than India, no other side has beaten New Zealand at the mega ICC event.
Henry is an in-form bowler, so missing him is a huge setback for the Kiwis.
