For Virat Kohli, June 3rd (2025) came as an evening to remember. The cricket legend won his first Indian Premier Legaue title. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat the Punjab Kings by six runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.
Punjab got the first advantage by winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Virat Kohli scored the highest runs for RCB in the 2025 final (by a player) – 43.
As the middle order of RCB combined well with 20-plus runs or around each, Rajat Patidar’s side were able to score 190 runs at nine wickets in 20 overs.
For Punjab, a 191-target looked winnable. But Captain Shreyas Iyer was able to contribute just one run. His collapse alongside quick wickets of set batsmen Josh Inglis and impact player Prabhsimran Singh broke the back of Punjab.
Shashank Singh tried his best with an unbeaten 61 in 30 balls, but it was not enough to make Punjab win their first IPL title.
Kohli was picked by RCB in the first edition of the IPL (2008). He has to wait for 18 seasons to win the first IPL title. Before 2025, he played three IPL finals with RCB and lost all of them.
Kohli said: “I never thought this day would come.”
“This means so much to me. I’ve given each and every ounce of my energy to this team. To have finally won the IPL is an amazing feeling.”
In 15 IPL 2025 games, Kohli scored 657 runs with an average of 54.75. It was one of his best seasons with the bat, too.
