After losing the fight to Alexia Thainara on Saturday, Molly McCann takes retirement from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
McCann, who is a massive Everton Football Club fan, is one of the most famous MMA celebrities in the United Kingdom. Thainara beat McCann by submission (rear-naked choke).
The 34-year-old English mixed martial arts star made her UFC debut in May 2018, losing the fight to Gillian Robertson.
However, she then had three straight UFC wins beofre losing two back-to-back contests. Later, she had ups and downs. McCann won four of her last eight UFC fights, losing the remaining four.
Before losing the fight to Thainara, she was beaten by Bruna Brasil on July 27, 2024 (UFC 304).
McCann’s MMA career lasted for 22 matches, winning 14 fights and losing eight.
“Bittersweet. Relieved. I know it’s the right decision because the weight of the world is off my shoulders,” McCann told ESPN.
It’s not clear what McCann will do next. Meanwhile at the main event on Saturday in London, Sean Brady beat Leon Edwards in the fourth round by submission.
