It was a surprising defeat for the Delhi Capitals against the Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in the Indian Premier Legaue on Sunday.
Axar Patel’s side lost two crucial points, allowing the visitors to chase a 200-run target in 20 overs and lost the game by 10 wickets.
It is rare in the IPL to see a team win a game by 10 wickets while chasing 200 runs. For the 2022 IPL winners, it was a massive win to top the IPL table again with 18 points from 12 games.
Abishek Porel, who contributed 25 in 16 balls, played a crucial role in making Delhi score 199/3 in 20 overs. KL Rahul played a massive knock of 112 not out in 65 balls and helped his side place a respectable total of 199.
But GT made it look so easy and did not lose even one wicket. Captain Shubman Gill blasted 93 unbeaten, and his opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, scored 108 not out.
However, Porel said after the match that fifth-placed DC can qualify for the playoffs by doing well in the last two games of the regular season.
He said: “We played good cricket. In some moments, we were a little behind – that’s why we didn’t win. But we played good cricket. We didn’t play bad cricket. We played good cricket. We still have two chances. If we win two-on-two, we still have chances to qualify. So there is no such ground challenges.”
Delhi are only one point behind fourth-placed Mumbai Indians, so a top-four finish is still possible. Now, Wednesday’s game against Mumbai away from home will be crucial.
The last of the DC before the playoffs is against the Punjab Kings, who are sitting third with 17 points.
