Former India cricketer Ambati Rayadu strongly believes that Chennai Super Kings fans are more connected to Mahendra Singh Dhoni than the franchise. MS Dhoni is one of the biggest names in the city of Chennai.
Millions of fans see him as a cricketing God. The fanbase is so strong on social media that it can go up against anybody.
Last Sunday when Rachin Ravindra hit the six and made CSK win against Mumbai Indians in the final over, he did face a lot of hate on social media platforms for not letting Dhoni finish the game.
It was such a situation that the fans were not happy about CSK winning the game. In fact, they wanted Dhoni to finish the game and then win.
Giving his take on the situation, former CSK player Rayudu said that this obsession of fans with Dhoni can hurt Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side a lot.
Rayudu told to ESPNCricinfo: “It is quite strange, and I don’t think it actually serves the game well. It is quite daunting if you’re a newcomer. It’s quite loud. The support is phenomenal. But, as you go on and play, then you realise they are MS Dhoni fans before they are CSK fans. It is quite evident, and rightly so, because that’s the way the team has been set up and built over the years.”
Dhoni has been with CSK since the very first IPL season in 2008. He led the team to win five IPL titles as a captain.
