Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal lost the first leg of the Champions League semis 1-0. Former Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of the game in the 4th minute.
Gianluigi Donnarumma’s amazing goalkeeping performance was the reason behind PSG winning the away leg.
Now Arsenal need to win the second leg in Paris to reach the UCL final. The away leg will be hosted by PSG for Arsenal on 7 May. Advancing to the final is crucial for both sides as they have not won this competition in their history, despite having a rich history overall.
In the first leg, the Gunners did miss suspended Thomas Partey. The former Atletico Madrid midfielder picked up a yellow card against Real Madrid in the last-8.
Arteta said: “We have to go to Paris and win the game.”
“I saw two very good teams, but the margins are so small. They had efficiency in front of the goal. The keeper as well made a difference to see the result that we’ve seen tonight.
“I don’t know the percentage, but we have a lot of chances to be in that final. You have to do something special in the competition to have the right to be in the final. And the time to do it is going to be in Paris.”
Arsenal did lose the Premier League title race to Liverpool on Sunday. So, winning the UCL is the only way for the Gunners to make this season count as a success.
