Will O’Rourke, who hails from New Zealand, has replaced Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav ahead of the final leg of the Indian Premier League 2025.
Rishabh Pant’s side paid INR 3 cr to get O’Rourke. LSG, with 10 points in 11 games, are holding the seventh position. They are four points behind fourth-placed Mumbai Indians, who have played 12 matches (one extra than LSG).
Qualifying for the next stage requires a top-four finish; as a result, LSG have taken this massive step. The IPL 2025 was stopped last week due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
However, early this week, the BCCI came up with a strong statement by announcing the return of the cash-rich event from May 17.
LSG have three games left in the regular season, with a faceoff against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 19 May, Gujarat Titans on 22 May, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on 27 May.
Winning all three games is crucial for Lucknow to be in the playoffs. Mayank was one of the three players LSG did not send in the mega auction ahead of the 2025 IPL season.
However, he has been battling with constant injuries since the start of the 2024-25 domestic season in India.
Super-quick Yadav played just twice for LSG in the IPL 2025 before facing an injury, taking two wickets.
Last season (IPL debut), too, he did not play many games but took seven wickets in four matches.
