In the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals, Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United thrashed Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at Estadio de San Mames on Thursday.
Casemiro presented the shades of his Real Madrid days, opening the scoreline in the 30th minute. Seven minutes later, in the 37th minute, Bruno Fernandes blasted a penalty and completed his brace in the 45th minute.
In the second half, the away side did not score even a goal and did not allow the hosts to add any. Before next week’s second leg at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have a massive 3-0 lead.
The former Sporting boss liked the overall performance of the team.
The Man United manager said: “I think best result because nobody expected this.”
Meanwhile, in the other semi-final clash, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Bodo/Glimt 3-1 at home after the first leg. They hold an advantage before the away contest, making sure of a possible all-English Europa League clash.
In the 35th minute, Daniel Vivian faced the red card. This gave Man United a free hand to shine.
