Giant Spanish side Atletico Madrid are in the hunt for a striker this summer, with Darwin Nunez as one of the strikers they are looking for.
Nunez, who joined Liverpool in 2022, has an official contract with Arne Slot’s side until the summer of 2028. However, the Reds are now looking to replace the striker with a new one this summer.
Considering Liverpool’s strength in the Premier League this season, Nunez does not have the stats to back his case. He has appeared 22 times, in the PL, for LFC in the 2024-25 season, but has managed to score only four goals.
It appears that head coach Slot is looking for a number 9 to score 18 or 20 plus goals in a single PL season.
Nunez has scored goals for Liverpool. However, these goals have not come at the rate fans have expected from him. But Atletico Madrid sees him as a striker who can adapt to La Liga’s system well and give a better output.
Atletico Madrid are in the La Liga title race, with 53 points in 25 games. They are just one point behind leaders Real Madrid and Barcelona.
But Diego Simeone’s side are looking beyond this season and has Nunez as a potential target to lead the forward line.
