There are millions of fans of Lionel Messi worldwide. However, there are more fans of Messi in India than in Argentina.
In October 2025, Argentina will come to India to play an international exhibition.
The AFA did reveal the update on Wednesday.
This is part of a global outreach program of South American nations to promote football worldwide before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
It does indicate that Messi has a strong chance of visiting the emerging football-loving nation again.
In 2011, Argentina played against Venezuela at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata and Messi did play that game in India.
AFA President Claudio Fabian Tapia sees this opportunity as an incentive to boost the overall growth of Argentina (football).
Tapia said: “A new milestone has been achieved for the expansion of our team, opening new opportunities in both India and Singapore.”
He added: “We look forward to consolidating our presence in multiple regions as we progress in 2025 and 2026.”
