Enzo Maresca feels that Cole Palmer can return to the golden goal-scoring touch. Palmer started the 2024-25 season well, adding 14 goals in the first 23 Premier League appearances.
However, he is goalless in the last 16 games in all competitions. Chelsea signed the England international from Manchester City in the summer of 2023. In his debut PL season for the Blues, the 22-year-old winger scored 22 times in 33 outings.
Palmer’s lack of contribution in Chelsea’s recent PL campaign has placed them in sixth place (from second).
Meanwhile, the Blues are hours away from facing Everton at Stamford Bridge in the English top-flight.
Maresca said: “For sure it’s a mental thing, it’s not tactical or technical.”
“Cole is still the player who scored 14 goals in 20 games. The style is the same, the manager is the same, the club is the same. Nothing has changed around Cole. It’s just mentally in this moment.”
Maresca wants Palmar to think positively, aiming to end the season on a better note.
With 57 points in 33 PL games, Chelsea are just three points behind fourth-placed Nottingham Forest.
Hence, winning the last five games in the PL is utterly crucial for opening up the Champions League window for the 2025-26 season.
