Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting pays attention towards flexibility in batting order as the main reason behind the team’s success. Ponting’s Punjab defended the 112 target against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday.
The Punjab Kings did buy Glenn Maxwell for Rs 4.2 crore for the 2025 season. However, he has not been able to shine yet.
Cricket great Ponting was asked if Maxwell can play in Shreyas Iyer’s number three spot.
Ponting said: “It’s not about numbers that these guys bat. It’s about the right time that you can inject them into the game. So we’ve got good flexibility with our batting order. We’ve moved a few guys around already this season. As things go on, and we come up with a more settled side, there probably won’t be guys moving around too much.”
Fourth-placed Punjab are enjoying a very productive IPL 2025, with just four wins and two losses in the opening six games.
They won these four games without Maxwell being able to deliver with the bat. However, he took the wicket of Venkatesh Iyer against KKR but scored just seven runs in 10 balls.
