Sebastian Coe, who was one of the leading candidates to become the new president of the International Olympic Committee, lost the battle against Kirsty Leigh Coventry Seward, from Zimbabwe.
Kirsty beat Sebastian by a fine margin, becoming the first female IOC president and African to hold this position.
Kirsty, who will take charge soon as the IOC boss, replaces Thomas Bach.
After facing a crushing defeat, Sebastian praises Kirsty.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Kirsty. And we’ve got an athlete at the head of the organisation. That’s a good thing. We chatted actually about that only a couple of weeks ago and agreed that that would be the preferred outcome.”
Sebastian came third as he got just eight of the 97 votes.
