Defending Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen is unhappy with major changes happening in his team. After not performing well in the season’s first two races, Red Bull replaced Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda.
It means ahead of the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix this weekend, he has a new teammate in Tsunoda. However, the fans and pundits of the sport feel that Lawson should have been given more chances to show his impact and worth.
Even Red Bull’s star driver Verstappen seems unhappy with this move. Former F1 diver Giedo van der Garde did picture his decision on social media as “bullying or a panic move”.
Even Verstappen did like the post of Giedo. He even told to the reporters in Japan: “(social media post like was) not a mistake.”
“I liked the comment, the text, so I guess it speaks for itself, right?”
He added: “Everything has been shared with the team, how I think about everything. Sometimes it’s not necessary to always share and say everything in public. I think it’s better.”
Lawson gets a demotion. He will now represent RB, which is the sister team of Red Bull. It was Lawson’s first driving experience in Melbourne and Shanghai, so taking him off that fast does not seem justifiable to the F1 fans.
“I think for rookies, always at the beginning of the season, you have the calendar nowadays, and F1 is very tough,” said Verstappen. “Because most of the tracks, they haven’t really driven on, or they maybe have a sprint weekend. So all these scenarios, they don’t help.”
McLaren’s Lando Norris is leading the 2025 F1 drivers’ race. Norris is eight points ahead of Verstappen. McLaren have managed to win both the races and performed way ahead of Red Bull.
