Shaila-Ann Rao has made a return to the world of Formula 1, holding the position of adviser to FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
Three years ago, in 2022, Rao exited from his role as interim secretary general just six months after taking charge.
Rao, being a lawyer, had worked as a Mercedes general counsel in F1. He was also Toto Wolff’s adviser.
His return is massive, as in December 2025, Sulayem will fight to become FIA president for the second time. As per several reports, Sulayem did connect with Rao to make a comeback.
Sulayem’s presidency has seen several ups and downs in the last three years. Not to forget that Robert Reid recently stepped down from his role as deputy president for sport. Reid was not happy with how the FIA is leading the sport.
Rao said: “I am looking forward to advising the FIA president across the FIA World Championships and building on the significant progress that has already been made during his presidential term strengthening the Championships’ regulatory and commercial frameworks.”
Rao’s return has raised many questions in the world of F1 and its future.
