Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk hailed the contribution of head coach Arne Slot after the team won the 2024-25 Premier League title on Sunday, beating Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield 5-1.
Dominic Solanke made the home side penic with opening the scoreline in the 12th minute. However, LFC came with three firing goals, thanks to Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo scoring opening each in the first 45 minutes.
In the 63rd minute, Mohamed Salah scored his 28th goal of the Premier Legaue season. Six minutes later, in the 69th minute, Destiny Udogie scored an own goal and made the scoreline 5-1 (69’). This made Spurs’ chances mostly impossible.
Not only did Liverpool win their second PL title, but matched rivals Manchester United’s 20 domestic top-flight titles.
As they have six European titles to Man United’s three, the Reds have the official right to be called the biggest English football club.
Slot, who joined the Reds last summer after Jurgen Klopp left the job, won the PL title with four games left.
Van Dijk said: “To replace Jurgen is a big job and the manager did it in his own way and deserves a lot of credit.”
“I don’t think anyone from the outside world thought we would be Premier League champions.”
It now means that second-placed Arsenal will have the Champions Legaue glory as something they have a chance to win.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is days away from facing Paris Saint-Germain (Tuesday) at home in the first leg of the UCL semis.
