Rajat Patidar is a famous cricketer in India, but becoming the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru has made him an overnight superstar.
Dinesh Karthik, who is the betting coach of RCB, feels that Rajat’s ability as a captain is unsung.
The former Indian cricketer is impressed with his leadership skills for Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket.
Rajat made his IPL debut in 2021 for RCB. IPL 2025 auction battle did make RCB pay INR 11 crore to retain Patidar.
The 31-year-old batsman is known for his fast-paced display. In 27 IPL matches, Rajat has scored 799 runs at a strike rate of 158.85.
The decision has made Patidar the eighth captain of RCB, who are yet to win a season in the Indian Premier League.
“It was a wonderful match is how he captained Madhya Pradesh the domestic season. The players said a lot of good things about the way he led the team. So this actually motivated us and we could really use a new captain since it is a fresh set of players and we will use this as a starting point for our new cycle. Hence these two reasons motivated us to make Rajat our captain,” said Karthik.
In the previous Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Patidar led MP to the final, where they came second. His 428 runs at a massive strike rate of 186.08 has made him a key player.
The IPL 2025 will start on March 22. In the opening match, RCB would face runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
