In a recently given interview with the media, Ajinkya Rahane has expressed his desire to play for India again. The 36-year-old batsman feels that he has still a lot to give at the international cricket level.
In 85 Test matches, Rahane has scored 5,077 runs for India. And most of his great innings have come on the away soil, making Rahane’s contribution bigger.
However, his last match (Test) was for India “West Indies vs India at Port of Spain – July 20 – 24, 2023”. Despite being a consistent player in Test, Rahane feels surprised for not being a part of India’s squad.
As per Rahane, Ajit Agarkar; the Chairman of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee, does not seem fancy giving the veteran cricketer a run to make a comeback.
He said: “I’m not the person who will go and ask why I’m being dropped. There was no communication.”
Rahane has not played in ODIs for India since 2018. But he has been seen as a very reliable Test player.
In 144 innings in Tests, he has scored 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries. Most of the better innings of Rahane has come outside India.
Over the last 10 years, he has been one of the most consistent performers of the team in Tests.
“There is still fire and passion in me. I’m playing Ranji Trophy at the moment, trying to give my all to the Mumbai team. The goal is clear to make another comeback,” he added.
Looking at the interview with Rahane, it seems that he wants to make an impact on India again. As India’s Test journey under head coach Gautam Gambhir has not been that great, a comeback of Rahane can be seen as a possibility.
