Right leg’s quadricep strain made New Zealand’s Bella James out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka at home.
The ODI series between New Zealand Women and Sri Lanka Women is set to take place at McLean Park in Napier, New Zealand on March 4th (Tuesday).
Bella has been replaced by Lauren Down as she requires three ti six weeks to be fit.
It was Otago’s match versus Central Districts in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield (New Zealand’s women’s one-day event) when she faced the injury. In 2024, Bella made her ODI debut against Australia in Wellington. In those opening two games of her ODI career, she scored 51 runs.
Head coach Ben Sawyer feels that this injury might make it hard to start the three-match ODI series on a perfect note.
“We’re all gutted for Bella,” Sawyer said.
Last year, India W won the ODI series against New Zealand W away from home 2-1. However, the team feels that 2025 is going to be different.
After the ODI series, both teams would face each other in T20I series from March 14 to March 18.
