First reported by (ESPN), as their resources have said that Paris Saint-Germain are looking keen to sign centre-back Ibrahima Konaté this summer from Liverpool.
The French international joined the Reds in 2021 from German side RB Leipzig. Konaté signed with Liverpool under the management of Jurgen Klopp, who left the six-time European Champions in the 2024 summer.
Back then, he was not the first-choice defensive partner of Virgil van Dijk. But since Arne Slot took over as the head coach of Liverpool in the 2024-25 season, Konaté has become a very crucial defender for the 19-time English Champions.
Liverpool are leading the points table in the Premier League this season, with 57 points in 24 matches. They are seven points ahead of second-placed Arsenal and are being seen as the favourites to win the English title for the record 20th time by football pundits.
The 25-year-old’s contract would expire in the summer of 2026 with LFC. With just one more season left in Konaté’s contract with Liverpool, it has become crucial for the English side to make him sign an extension.
Since 2021, Konaté has played a major role in making Liverpool win one Community Shield, one FA Cup and two League Cup titles.
Konate made his professional football debut for the French side FC Sochaux B in 2017.
Liverpool seem keen to give Konaté a contract extension. The former FC Sochaux B defender has recently said that he has not decided about his next move yet.
He said: “I’m really focused on what will happen now and then we will see what happens.”
In July 2021, Liverpool paid £36 million to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig to sign the French defender. However, this is the first season where Konaté has got ample game time in the Premier League.
The gossip in the football world is suggesting Konaté seems fancy to coming back to his country and joining the mega French club (PSG) next season.
Looking at the current form of Liverpool, it seems as if this would be the season where the Reds would become the first-ever side in England to win 20 English top-flight titles, surpassing Manchester United, who have won 19 till now (just like Liverpool).
This would also be the first PL title of Konaté (if they win the season). Due to injuries and other issues, Konaté has never played more than 22 games in a single PL season for Liverpool since joining the club in 2021.
However, in this season, he is looking fit and seems away from injury. In 69 appearances for Liverpool in the PL, Konaté has managed to keep 23 clean sheets. In this season too, he has missed eight games for Liverpool. It was the Champions League game on November 27, 2024, versus Real Madrid, where he faced a ‘frustrating’ injury.
As Konate is looking sharp in the 2025-26 season, it would be great to see his move this summer.
