The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have got a massive boost ahead of the Indian Premier League restart against the Kolkata Knight Riders at home on Saturday.
Hazlewood and other overseas players left India last week after a sudden rise in geopolitical issues. However, as things are normal again, the IPL restart is happening from May 17 (RCB vs KKR).
As per some media reports, Hazlewood’s return to the squad means a lot ahead of some crucial games of the season.
Eight wins and three losses in 11 games have placed RCB second in the IPL table (16 points). Australia and South Africa’s return and availability for the new IPL fixture might create problems, as both sides will face each other in the 2025 ICC World Test Championship final at Lord’s from 11–15 June 2025.
As the IPL final will now be staged on June 3, some of the top players from Australia and South Africa might not get ample time for preparation.
Hazlewood, who is a regular in Test format for Australia, returning to India means that the BCCI has made some plans to manage overall things.
A source told Hindustan Times: “Yes, Josh will travel to India. We are in discussion with the authorities about the exact date of his arrival.”
As Rajat Patidar has an injury issue, Hazlewood’s return might play a morale-boosting factor.
