The Indian Premier League fixture between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 at Eden Gardens has a high chance of happening on another date.
KKR, who will start the IPL 2025 season in the opening game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Kolkata on Saturday, are the defending champions as they won the title in 2024.
Due to the Ram Navami celebrations that day, there is a huge crowd gathering expected in Kolkata. Suvendu Adhikari, who is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has told already that during Ram Navami 20,000 or more processions will happen in West Bengal.
This has made the workload of the state Police a lot. Hence, they have not given the go-ahead for the game between KKR and LSG.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly had a meeting with state security bodies on Tuesday, where they have not given any clearance for the game to take place at the scheduled time.
“They have categorically said they won’t be able to provide adequate security. If there’s no police protection, accommodating a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible,” Snehasish said.
They have even informed the BCCI about this update. As the KKR are getting ready for the season, where they wear the crown of the defending champions, there is a huge buzz in the city to back their superstars.
The three-time IPL champions have made Ajinkya Rahane their new captain for the 2025 edition, following the departure of Shreyas Iyer.
