AB de Villiers gave the new captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru Rajat Patidar advice before the Indian Premier League 2025 opening game; where RCB will lock horns against hosts Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Saturday.
De Villiers, who was a crucial part of RCB from 2011 to 2021, made it clear that Patidar should use the experience of former RCB captain Virat Kohli well. However, he should act like a leader and make his own decisions.
Kohli is the most famous player of RCB. However, it is Patidar who has to lead the team. This is the first season when the 31-year-old batsman will guide one of the most loved sides in the IPL (RCB).
De Villiers said: “Patidar’s biggest challenge will be insecurity, stepping into the big boots of captains like Faf (du Plessis) and Virat (Kohli). Having Virat around and constantly almost doubting yourself – ‘Am I doing the right thing? What would Virat do?’ So that I think will be his biggest obstacle.”
However, Virat recently backed Patidar at the Unbox Event on Monday as RCB’s captain and used some great words in his support.
Kohli said: “He is an amazing talent. He is a great player, we all know that, but he has got a great head on his shoulders, and he will do a great job for this amazing franchise and take the team forward. He has got everything that’s required.”
