The Board of Control for Cricket in India expressed condolences on former cricketer Syed Abid Ali leaving this world aged 83 on March 12 (press release).
Syed Abid Ali is a legend of Indian cricket, helping the mega cricketing nation to make the foundation solid in the 1960s and 70s.
Syed (medium pacer) represented India 29 times in Test format, taking 47 wickets and scoring 1018 runs. He did play in five ODIs, taking seven wickets and adding 93 runs.
In the 1967-68 season, he made his cricket debut against Australia. In 1971, he was a squad member when India won the Test series in England and the West Indies.
