Eden Gardens pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee has done something one could have never imagined. Mukherjee went against Kolkata Knight Riders’ captain Ajinkya Rahane’s wish to make a spin-friendly wicket at the Eden Gardens.
As a result, KKR lost their IPL 2025 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets last weekend (Saturday).
Rahane must have taken this decision after having quality spinners like Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and others in the squad.
In fact, Varun joined KKR after helping India win the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull feels that KKR should look for a new home as Mukherjee has a very unprofessional attitude.
He said: “If he’s unwilling to accommodate what the home team desires, perhaps it’s time to move the franchise elsewhere. He’s not there to share his personal views on the game that’s not what he’s getting paid for.”
After losing the season’s opener, KKR came back stronger in the next game and beat Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets on Wednesday.
